Key features

01

21 glitch modules

Turn on and combine any of 21 modules, including Time Stutter, Datamosh, Block Displace, Pixel Sorter, RGB Split, Interference, Scanlines, and Glitch Signal.

02

19 Look Presets and the Preset Browser

Browse the 19 Look Presets (VHS Tear, Data Corrupt, RGB Shatter, Vaporwave, Dead CRT, and more) as moving thumbnails drawn through the actual render pipeline, and pick one.

03

Set glitch timing with Trigger

Use Trigger Mode (Always On, Interval, Random, Slider), Chance, and Duration to decide when glitches fire and how long they last.

04

Glitch Signal (analog signal chain)

Glitch Signal models composite encoding, VCR transport, and CRT display in their physical order.

05

Radial, circular, and spiral Pixel Sorter

Besides Linear, Pixel Sorter's Trajectory can sort along Radial, Circular, and Spiral paths.

Quick start

Follow these steps in order the first time.

  1. Apply Effect › TMC › TMC Glitch to a layer or an adjustment layer.
  2. Choose a look in Look Preset, or pick one from the moving thumbnails in the Preset Browser.
  3. In Trigger, decide whether the glitch runs all the time (Always On) or fires at set intervals or at random.
  4. Open the module group you want, turn on its Enable checkbox (for example, Enable Datamosh), and fine-tune the strength. To experiment with values safely, adjust them in the Glitch Editor window and then click Apply.

Practical tips

  • To glitch only part of the frame, set a layer mask in the Mask group.
  • To fire glitches on the beat, set Trigger Mode to Slider and raise Trigger Slider only on the frames you want.
  • Save combinations you like as user presets (.tmcglitch) and load them in other projects.
  • Frames that use the time-based modules (Time Stutter, Time Displace, Frame Echo), Datamosh, Databend, Codec Corrupt, Pixel Sorter, or Glitch Signal, or that have a Mask set, switch to the CPU path automatically. If rendering gets slow, turn on only the modules you need.

Where to use it

  • A transition where the frame breaks apart at the song's drop
  • Retro MVs with the texture of VHS tape and CRT monitors
  • Transition cuts that melt away with datamoshing

Pairs well with

Technical notes

  • Includes a native After Effects GPU render path that works with 13 pixel- and gather-type modules.
  • Built on SmartFX, with support for 8 · 16 · 32 bpc and Multi-Frame Rendering. Edges are handled with Wrap, Clamp, Mirror, or Transparent.
  • Previews and final renders are calculated by the same code, so the result matches the look you saw in the Preset Browser.
