Key features

01

6 Style presets

Get started right away with Silk Flow, Holo Shimmer, Neon Rings, Topo Lines, Wood Grain, or Chrome Sheen.

02

5 Contour shapes

Turn the sheen into contour lines or banded patterns with the 5 Contour shapes (Single, Ring, Bands, Sawtooth, Terrace) and Band Count.

03

Animated sheen

Flow Speed in Contour makes the bands of sheen flow through the text on their own, Phase shifts the bands by hand, and FPS in Animation breaks the motion into steps.

Quick start

Follow these steps in order the first time.

  1. Apply Effect › TMC › TMC Satin to text or a logo.
  2. Choose the closest preset in Style.
  3. Set the position and spread of the sheen with Angle, Distance, and Size.
  4. Adjust the pattern and its flow (Flow Speed) in the Contour group, and use FPS in the Animation group to make the motion look stepped.

An editor for building a gradient by adding, moving, and deleting color stops

Sets the color of the color stop selected in the gradient editor.

Flow Speed
Makes the bands flow on their own, in bands per second. At 0 they stay still.
Animation1
FPS
Sets how many times per second the Flow Speed motion updates. Lower values look choppier; at 0 the bands flow smoothly every frame.
Other parameters2
Master Opacity
The opacity of the whole effect
Alpha
When on, hides the original layer and outputs only the sheen.

Octaves
The number of noise layers stacked when Noise Type is Fractal. Each added layer is twice as fine as the one before.

Sets how strongly the finer layers are mixed in when Noise Type is Fractal. Low values look smooth; higher values look rougher.
Evolution
The evolution stage of the noise pattern. Keyframe it to bring the pattern to life.
Noise Offset
Moves the noise pattern. Keyframe it to make the pattern flow.

Practical tips

  • Set Fill Type to Gradient to color the sheen with a multi-stop gradient or one of 12 preset palettes.
  • Use the Turbulent Noise and Halftone groups to break up the sheen pattern or add halftone dots on top.

Where to use it

  • A logo that looks like a holographic sticker
  • A title with chrome sheen flowing across it
  • Backlighting that runs along a character's inner outline

Pairs well with

Technical notes

  • GPU-accelerated with OpenCL on Windows and Metal on macOS, with a CPU fallback. All three paths use the same calculation for the Contour remap.
  • Supports 8 · 16 · 32 bpc and Multi-Frame Rendering.
